The YMP appeals to President GMA "to stop and avoid the recurrence of non-Moro and Moro mutual hatred and distrust in Mindanao and throughout the country" by ensuring human rights protection in view of the warrantless arrests in Davao and in Manila. YMP Chair, Ayesah Abubakar delivered this statement to the Multi-Sectoral Meeting with DILG and Moro leaders in Metro Manila at the Century Park Sheraton Hotel.

Together with other sectoral leaders, like from the Dawah Centers, women's groups, business associations, the Moro communities were united in denouncing the ongoing military operations against the MILF in Central Mindanao, the numerous bombings and threat to peace and order as un-Islamic actions, and the wanton arrests of suspected terrorists as prejudice to the Moro communities.

From the Government, DILG Sec. Joey Lina was joined by Mayors Belmonte (Q.C), Tinga (Taguig), Atienza (Manila), Rep of Mayor Malonzo (Caloocan) and Gen. Velasco (PNP-NCR). The local chief executives spoke of their good working relationship with their Moro contituents. In Taguig Municipal Hall, there are in fact 70 Moros employed, demonstrating equitable job opportunity . In Caloocan, the Ustadzes have also been hired as part of its government- and they were there in full force! Mayor Atienza shared the story of development in San Andres Bukid which is home to Moro families living harmoniously with the Christian neighbors.

Among the Moro Gov't officials were Bai Omera Lucman (DSWD Usec), Abraham Iribani (DILG Usec), Bai Norhata Alonto (OP) who were key organizers of this meeting. They lead the group in signing a Covenant for Peace & Order in Metro Manila as a start of opening communication lines between the Moro communities and the local governments regarding issues that affect them. To institutionalize this relationship, DILG has initiated the establishment of a Moro Peace & Order Council Secretariat where the various NGO and community group leadership present wereappointed as members.

End.
