Seven high schools and their advisers attended the Study Smart Seminar organized by the Young Moro Professionals Network (YMPN) and Integrated Provincial Health Office at the IPHO Conference Hall, March 3, Monday morning.

Meant to inspire the mostly senior students to take college degrees "of their choice" and improve study habits, the trailblazing seminar was enthusiastically received by the more than 150 students from Notre Dame boys and girls high school (HS), Mindanao State University- Sulu HS and other schools.

In a human development situationer, YMPer and journalist Samira Gutoc presented the three sides of the Moro problem which included politics - lack of good leadership, social - peace and religious assertion, economic - lack of economic development. Connecting it to the need for Tausug youth to serve the Tausug people, Gutoc cited that education through acquiring of knowledge, skills and energy would benefit the Muslims as a whole.

AIM graduate Ayesah Abubakar presented the scholarship listings of CHED networks. Gutoc and Abubakar also cited study tips such as reading right, having enough rest, awarding oneself for successes, exam results re-examination, studying teacher's styles and writing to express oneself.

Inspirational speaker Dra. Nelsa Amin, a recipient of an International award as a doctor of humanity and former IPHO Director told the youth to learn from their elders, who succeeded in their own professions.

Tausug professionals Sulu board member Edilwasif Baddiri, dentist Jodl Isahac, chief nurse Fazlur Abdullah, in local dialect, urged the youth to change negative attitudes to address Sulu's lack of development.

There were 176 student participants coming from the seven local high schools in Jolo, namely, the Notre Dame Boys & Girls, Sulu High School, MSU, Hadji Butu School of Arts & Trade, Sulu State College Laboratory H.S., and Jolo National H.S.

Ayesah Abubakar gave an orientation on the history, vision and projects of the YMPNetwork. She presented various scholarship opportunities for the Moro youth, but then, these can only be availed by academically prepared, competent, and deserving applicants. Thus, there should be a conscious effort of working hard towards this goal. And it should start early on in primary and secondary education.

End.
