Almost 200 youths are going to the exotic Chali Beach in the heart of Mindanao for the "National Youth Dialogue on Building a Culture of Peace and Sustainable Development" this coming September 19 to 21.

The event is timely as September 21 is declared as the International Peace Day by the United Nations, while Manila observes the commemoration of the commencement of the Martial Law regime. The Philippines is undergoing peace talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front as civil society groups, including the youth bat for participation in the peace process.

Activities for the delegates, who belong to the Sangguniang Kabataan, Muslim and Lumad youths, include workshops on conflict resolution, speeches of officials on the peace process, team building, exhibits of youth initiatives, a cultural show and networking.

Invited Guest speakers include Senator Loren Legarda, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Presidential Adviser on Overseas Filipino Communities and founder of Earthsaver's Movement Secretary Heherson Alvarez and theater activist Cecile Guidote Alvarez.

Facilitators include MSU professor Phyllis Teanco, lawyer Jerlie Luis (President of the 3rd National Youth Parliament), peace journalist Samira Ali Gutoc, Anthony Ambahan, Mindanawan youth organizers Jeremy Bayucot, Abdullah Datudacula, parliamentarians Rolin Obina and Jun Belencion (President of the National Youth Parliament Alumni Association).

The organizer of the event is the National Youth Parliament (NYP) Alumni Association, with the help of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP). The NYP is an institution created under Republic Act 8084 or Youth in Nation-Building Act.
