Manila - Muslim civil society leaders here urge a "serious independent investigation" of claims of military mutineers that the Davao bombings were hatched by non-Moro forces.
"We urge the Muslim congressmen, ulamas and lawyers to conduct an investigation with the Commission on Human Rights and the Department of Justice," said Ustadz Ayubkhan Saripada, a rally organizer from the Quiapo Islamic Center. For his part, Rep. Mujiv Hataman (AMIN) plans to file a resolution asking for a congressional investigation into alleged sale of bullets to Moro rebels by military and their subsequent involvement in the Davao airport and Sasa wharf bombings.
Other Muslims expressed relief that they have finally been "vindicated" from the turn of events. Suspected "terrorists" from Moro communities have been arrested and detained in Davao after the Davao airport bombings months ago, while Muslims males have been rounded up after the al-Ghozi alleged escape in Camp Crame. In the aftermath of the Davao blasts, some mosques in Davao City were planted with bombs. "We did not need to go out in the streets and protest. We Muslims got justice," said Dang Musa of the Metro Manila-based national network, Young Moro Professionals (YMP). Rep. Hataman also said that Muslim communities, especially in Metro Manila must "stand vigilant" in protecting their rights to privacy and from warrantless detentions. The YMP leadership urges Moro lawyers to help protect Muslim communities from unwarranted searches and seizures by conducting human rights education and taking up cases of detained Moros. End.
