Malaysia hosts International Muslim Youth meet |

250 Muslim youths from the 56 countries of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) and from minorities will be gathered for the first time as an "international community" at the International Conference of the Muslim Young Leaders (ICMYL) at the Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia on September 14-16.
The event aims to promote "Islamic patriotism and networking”, expose participants to the "Malaysian experience" which promotes an Ummah despite its racial diversity and discuss global issues. Malaysia, with a federal government and Islamic set-up, is also known to have a strong political youth movement and party attached to the Prime Minister (PM) - the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), which Prime Minister Mahathir Mohammad heads. The Prime Minister in waiting, Abdullah bin haji Ahmad Badawi, current Deputy Prime Minister will be the keynote speaker for the opening rites. Topics for the workshops include Ummah Unity and Religious Tolerance - Positivism and Similiarities; Muslim Tradition of Excellence to be presented by Malaysia's Education Minister; Muslim Global Players and Participants - Strategy and Opportunity to be moderated by the Minister of International Trade; and Globalization - the Future of the Ummah - Vision and Mission. Prime Minister Mohammad will host a dinner reception on September 16. A study tour will bring delegates to witness Putrajaya's " sophisticated government machinery, Malacca's "racial harmony of 600 years", Penang's free trade zones and Shah Alam's Proton factory, a "Malaysian achievement in the automobile engineering industry." The event organizer, The Foundation of the Activators of the Vision has invited two participants from the "Muslim minority" in the Philippines - Secretary Ishak Mastura of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)- ARMM and peace journalist Samira Gutoc. Philippines is currently undergoing peace talks between the GRP and the MILF, its venue and Secretariat facilitated by Malaysia. End.
