KING FAISAL AWARDS CALLS FOR NOMINEES |

Muslim Nobel Prize? Almost of the same stature, the King Faisal International Prize for 2004 is up for nominations. Its Saudi-based General Secretariat invites universities, scientific societies, research centers and other learned circles throughout the world to nominate candidates in the field of Service to Islam, Islamic Jurisprudence, Arabic Language and Literature, Medicine and Science. Nominations in Arabic or English must not be made by individuals or political parties. Nominated works must be original, published and represent a "contribution of highest distinction and benefit mankind" and "advance scientific knowledge."
Prizes to be won include 200,000 US dollars, a 24-carat 200 gram gold medallion and a certificate written in Diwani calligraphy and presented in a leather folder describing the work of the awardee.. Deadline for submission of nominations is on May 31, 2003. Winners will be announced in January 2004 and will be honored at an official ceremony in Riyadh.
