Two new Moro Ambassadors were appointed by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and were recently confirmed by the Commission on Appointments (CA). The two new Muslim diplomats are Philippine Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman Candidato Gutoc and Philippine Ambassador to Libya (with jurisdiction over Algeria, Chad, Mali, Malta, Mauritania, Niger and Tunisia) Malik Marandang.
Gutoc was previously ambassador to Bangladesh, and has also been assigned to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. He has been with the DFA since 1973 and passed the FSO exam in 1977. He is a lawyer by profession and hails from Lanao del Norte.
A political appointee, Marandang is also a lawyer and used to be connected with the Commission on Human Rights. He was also a former instructor/lecturer at the Jamiatul Philippine Al-Islamia.
Gutoc and Marandang, together with the other newly appointed ambassadors were treated to a celebration hosted by Omar Pangarungan from the Office of Middle Eastern and African Affairs (OMEAA) of the DFA last Wednesday, October 22. Gutoc, who could not attend the said event, was represented by his wife and daughter, Tomanina and Norhanie.
End.
