Last November 6, the 6th Philippine Web Awards was held at the Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1 in Makati City. www.bangsamoro.com, the flagship website of the Young Moro Professionals Network (YMPN) was included as a semi-finalist in the Organizations category. The UP Mountaineers (www.upmountaineers.org.ph) eventually won the best website for this category. They also bagged the People’s Choice award in the same category.
This yearly event is organized by Media G8Way Corporation. 42 awards were all in all given out during the ceremony: 21 for Best Websites and another 21 for the People’s Choice Awards. The 21 categories that the finalists vied for were: Arts, Banking and Finance, Celebrities and Personalities, Community, Corporate, E-Commerce, E-Government, E-Learning, E-Services, E-Travel, Home and Living, Magazines and Zines, Music, News, Organizations, Personal, Portal, Recreation, Schools, SMEs, and Weird and Humor.
A separate board of judges for the semi-final and final rounds decides on the Best Websites awards, while the People’s Choice Awards is decided on by members of the Internet community through their online votes or via SMS. Both semi-finalists and finalists are eligible for the latter awards.
Bangsamoro.com bested a total of 2,353 nominees to make it among the 185 semi-finalists. The awards show, which had as its theme “The Matrix”, was hosted by TV host TJ Manotoc and Model/Veejay/TV host Amanda Griffin.
Bangsamoro.com was the only Moro/Muslim website to make it to this years’ Philippine Web Awards. Last year, Bangsamoro Online (www.bangsamoro.info) won the best website in the Organizations category.
