Another prominent figure in Moro history passes away during this month just before the Holy Month of Ramadhan. In the past three months, two leading Moro figures, MILF chair Salamat Hashim and Bangsamoro League Movement founder and now Education Usec. Macapanton Abbas.

 
Interfaith Workshop

Recent Oxford visitors Aldean Alonto (Young Moro Professionals) and Norain Usman (UP Institute of Islamic Studies) were inspired by their recent stay in the United Kingdom. Learning from other youths in the Oxford Muntada or interfaith program affirmed their belief in the spirit of co-existence. In localizing the goal of bridging cultures and faiths, these young professionals find more meaning in the spiritual dimension of life; living the life of accepting the Other.

 
PNGOC Promote Reproductive Health in Workshop

Makati City - The Philippine NGO Council on Population, Health and Welfare (PNGOC) recently organized a workshop entitled "Setting Alternative Enabling Policy environment for Population and Reproductive Health (RH) Programs". This was held last September 26, 2003 at the Balagtas Ballroom of the Manila Peninsula Hotel, where various sectors and partners such as the National Youth Commission, Women Lead Foundation, PCCP, Young Moro Professionals Network, UP School of Economics, and government officials including former Senator Leticia Ramos-Shahani attended the said event.

 
MUSLIMS MARK NISFU SHAABAN

Saturday -- October 11 -- marks the halfway to the Muslim holy month of Ramadhan, which will commence approximately on October 26. Muslims are encouraged to fast and observe optional prayers during this day, called Nisfu Shaaban.

 
Moro delegates outspoken in ICMYL

No Muslim minority as there could be statistical genocide. This and other striking statements came from the Philippine delegates who actively participated in the International Conference of Muslim Young Leaders (ICMYL) in Kuala Lumpur last September 14-16. Some 100 young Muslims from more than 60 countries, including those with "minority" Muslims attended the "historic Islamic event."

 
IDB to extend relief assistance for IDPs

COTABATO CITY - More relief assistance are expected to be afforded to the thousands of Internally Displaced Peoples (IDPs) who were adversely affected both by natural calamities and armed conflict between the government and rebel groups in Mindanao.

Last October 4, 2003, Saturday, the Consul General of Malaysia H.E. Mokhtar Mohamed together with Mohammed bin Yahya and Farid Bin Mohammed, officials of Islamic Development Bank (IDB) based in Malaysia, discussed here with the officials of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DSWD-ARMM) and Bangsamoro Development Agency (BDA) the ways and means to help the plight of the IDPs.
