Peace NGO and Swiss Embassy launch forum on "Owning the Peace Process"

Putting people at the heart of the peace process. 2.7 million children in Colombia voted in a UNICEF-sponsored referendum in 1997 to place peace on top of the country's agenda and the Bishop-Ulama Forum fostering inter-faith dialogue in Mindanao. These and other inspiring stories of civil society empowerment were just one of those mentioned in the seminar, "Owning the Peace Process : Public Participation in Peace-making" held at the Switzerland Embassy, London on April 2.

 
Refugees seeking peace

Four teenage refugees, mostly from Muslim war-torn towns, showcased their photo impressions of Oxford in an exhibit held April 5 at the heart of the city in a cause-oriented gallery called Modern Art Oxford.

The boys had a similar story to tell: to escape war in their hometowns. Their new home in Oxford welcomed them with open arms.

To Tausug youth: study hard to make it!

Seven high schools and their advisers attended the Study Smart Seminar organized by the Young Moro Professionals Network (YMPN) and Integrated Provincial Health Office at the IPHO Conference Hall, March 3, Monday morning.

Meant to inspire the mostly senior students to take college degrees "of their choice" and improve study habits, the trailblazing seminar was enthusiastically received by the more than 150 students from Notre Dame boys and girls high school (HS), Mindanao State University- Sulu HS and other schools.

 
Another Moro arrested

On March 10 at 7am in the morning, one of the members of the Balik Islam Unity Congress, Ahmad Lomarda, was abducted in front of his house in Taguig by unidentified men riding two tinted vans. He was, according to a witness, whipped on his back with an armalite as he was pushed into the van.

His wife subsequently went that day to the PNP station and was informed that there was a surveillance operation in the Taguig area by the Intelligence Services Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP), led by Capt. Jeoffrey Antonio, and that this operation was coordinated with the PNP station.

 
Muslims arrested for Davao blast

At least 10 moros were picked up by the Davao PNP from 3 areas in the morning of March 5, 2003. The areas are: Sanggilangan, Ma-a; Luzviminda Subdivision; and Ecoland (Times beach). The persons who were “invited for questioning” are:
