Manila- Religious leaders from major religions in Asia are meeting to "better understand the other" and come up with a formula against terrorism in the region. "Solve the social roots of the problem. Make the motives of the terrorists shrink", said keynote speaker Fr. Romeo Intengan, Provincial Superior of the Philippine Province of the Society of Jesus, in an interview. "Injustice leads to unrest in the world today", said another speaker, Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald.

It is now a month since the July 19 bilateral ceasefire started by the Goverment of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Except for what the MILF claims are breaches of the ceasefire in Lanao Norte where a massive manhunt is ongoing for Indonesian fugitive Fathur Roman Al-Ghozi, and some reported clashes in Pagalungan and Pagagawan, Maguindanao, no actual fighting has occurred on the ground and the ceasefire is generally holding. Thankfully.

In acknowledging the death of MILF Chair Salamat Hashim, it is important to remember him “not just as a mere rebel, but also as an intellectual, father and as a real Moro leader.” YMP Chair Baibonn Sangid emphasized this during her opening remarks in the Muslim Youth Organization Launch of the search for Muslim Leaders, with the theme “Through the Legacy of Amir Salamat Hashim.”
